Who are We?

Purpose

The purpose of our CAS project is to educate BSGE students about their rights as students within and associated with their school. The most dangerous thing in the world is a lack of information- by filling this need in our community, students will be able to protect themselves in society as they get older.  Over 9 weeks, we will provide BSGE 7th graders with lessons that cover the first amendment, specifically, exercising the right to assemble and freedom of speech within the classroom, policing in schools, and later freedom of press and the right to petition one’s government as we discuss future application of these rights. Under the supervision of Ms. Kadende, we conducted weekly meetings during the 7th graders advisory period. Each lesson consisted of a slideshow on the designated topic of the week, an interactive activity to show students how they can exercise their rights, and a closing group discussion. Through these lessons, we ultimately hoped to create a safer and more representative community as students recognize that they have rights in an educational institution. We also believed it would cultivate students' ability to approach situations from a multi-perspective view as we were teaching them how to advocate for themselves in a variety ways in different environments.

Our aim is to engage a group of students in an interactive way and make a lasting impact on their understanding of their rights. This will foster a safer, more connected, and confident community as students recognize that they have rights in schools. The lessons will allow students to expand on their analytical skills and approach situations from a bilateral perspective. We will produce an educational curriculum by the end of the CAS Project.
